Calmer Than I Used to Be

About this book

Tarfa Hassan Al-Saleh writes from the quieter ground reached after inner battles have exhausted their noise. These essays and poetic reflections consider disappointment, waiting, withdrawal, solitude, and the subtle changes by which a person stops confusing constant reaction with strength. Calm is not indifference; it is the ability to preserve tenderness without handing every event control of the self. The book gives language to stumbles people often hide and to the maturity that grows when expectations lose their tyranny. Readers are invited to recognize peace not as a life without wounds, but as a different relationship to memory, boundaries, and the pace of healing.
