About this book
The Promise is a collection of poetry in Egyptian colloquial Arabic, drawing on neighborhood life, familiar streets, and quiet afternoons on balconies. Its poems bring together childhood memories and family gatherings with loneliness, winter, and longing for absent loved ones. Love and loyalty confront separation and disappointment, while simple faith offers comfort amid difficult experiences. Through everyday images, the collection reflects on keeping an old promise, finding meaning in an unguarded smile, and remaining faithful to those who make up one’s world.
