I Can't See You

About this book

A person steals the life of someone already dead, believing a borrowed identity can offer safety. Instead, each successful deception brings the thief closer to a truth more dangerous than exposure. Ibtissam Abu Bakr builds a psychological and political mystery around surveillance, hidden loyalties, and the unstable boundary between seeing and being seen. The title becomes a challenge as well as a plea: invisibility may protect a fugitive, but it also erases the self that hoped to survive. As fragments of the dead person's history surface, the protagonist must decide whether to preserve the lie or confront a reality whose consequences may be worse than death.
