My Life in the Mirror

About this book

Hamed Al-Zuwaydhi looks into the mirror of memory from the old streets of Mellah and the oasis landscape of Skoura. Childhood among layered cultures, discovery through public libraries, the years surrounding independence, and later commitments to writing and public principle form the path of this literary autobiography. The author records more than personal advancement: he preserves neighbourhood coexistence, political risk, and the local details overlooked by official history. Books become doors and words become acts with consequences. By placing the private face beside the changing face of Morocco, the memoir asks how an individual remains coherent while time repeatedly revises the world reflected around him.
