About Ghassan Kanafani

Displaced with his family in 1948, he worked in education and journalism in Damascus, Kuwait and Beirut. He wrote novels, short stories, plays and criticism, exploring Palestinian experience alongside questions of displacement, dignity, resistance and human responsibility. His works include Men in the Sun, Returning to Haifa, The Land of Sad Oranges and Umm Saad. He was assassinated in Beirut in 1972. The catalogue’s Arabic and Latin-script entries identify the same writer; La tierra de las naranjas tristes is a Spanish translation of The Land of Sad Oranges.
