The Three Musketeers

About this book

Young d'Artagnan arrives in Paris with a sword, a yellow horse, little money, and a determination never to retreat from a challenge. Within hours he has arranged duels with Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, only to become their ally against Cardinal Richelieu's guards. Alexandre Dumas then sends the four companions through court intrigue, secret letters, journeys to England, and the deadly schemes of Milady de Winter. Friendship gives the novel its enduring center: bravery matters because it is practiced in loyalty to others. The adventure combines wit, romance, political conspiracy, and swordplay in a celebration of courage complicated by ambition, betrayal, and consequence.
