Lavender Does Not Grow in My Land

About this book

Arwa Mohamed writes from a landscape where lavender, symbol of ease and healing, refuses to grow. The essays and autobiographical reflections explore disappointment, estrangement, inherited wounds, and the mental health struggles that are often hidden behind endurance. Place matters deeply: remedies and expectations imported from elsewhere do not always fit the soil of a particular life or community. The author searches for forms of care that respect culture without allowing tradition to silence pain. Tenderness and frustration coexist throughout the book, which offers no decorative optimism. Its hope lies in naming what hurts honestly and discovering which native roots can support recovery.
