About Jean Webster
She attended Vassar College, wrote for student publications and developed interests in education, social reform and women’s rights. Her first novel, When Patty Went to College, appeared in 1903. Daddy-Long-Legs brought widespread recognition in 1912, followed by its sequel Dear Enemy. Her fiction combines humour with questions of independence, education and the care of orphans, frequently centring young women. Line drawings accompanying her writing also contributed to the distinctive charm of her storytelling.
